about

Originally released through Wayside and Woodland Recordings in 2018, the 'Smiling Leaf' EP marked a return for E.L. Heath after a period of some 5 years.

Inspired in part by the stories of Algernon Blackwood and Arthur Machen - especially Machen's novel ‘The Hill of Dreams’ - in which pagan imagery and the remains of ancient Roman settlements haunt the rural home of its protagonist Lucian Taylor - 'Smiling Leaf' continues the more song-oriented direction exhibited on Heath's 2013 Welsh-language album 'Tŷ', featuring songs penned in English and Serbo-Croat.

These themes continue though Victoria Clinton's artwork, arranged by Heath and Rob Glover, comprising of found objects interwoven with textures of wood grain and skeletal leaves.

With thanks to Ben and Rob at Wayside and Woodland Recordings.
